Lifeline blames ‘human error’ for massively overstating increase in calls

Review:  Today Cecile Meier reported on Lifeline Aotearoa’s incorrect claim last week that there was a 230 percent increase in calls last year.  In fact, there was a less than 1 percent increase in calls volumes – from 125,000 to 126,000. In regards to the claims that they had recruited an additional 10 new staff and 100 volunteers, Lifeline explained that there had been a misunderstanding and that: “We’re seriously understaffed and we don’t have enough resources on the media side of things.”
